Herb z linią obłokową in short

The Nebuly Coat follows a young architect who comes to restore a church and finds a town built around a secret. Sharnall wants his organ and some peace. Miss Euphemia wants to pay her debts.

What Herb z linią obłokową is about

What would you do if the arches above your head seemed to speak? Edward Westray, a young architect, steps from a rain-soaked omnibus into the vast church of Saint Sepulchre at Cullerne. Soon he hears the four tower arches repeat one warning. The arch never sleeps.

The Nebuly Coat was written by John Meade Falkner and published in 1903. It is a mystery set in a small English seaport that has lost its trade and kept its great church. Falkner mixes dry comedy, ghostly dread and a patient chase after a hidden family secret.

Dla kogo. Readers who enjoy old churches, heraldry and unfolding mysteries will love this book. It also suits lovers of English country towns, sharp comic portraits and ghost-tinged tales of family secrets.

An architect arrives in a drowned town

Sir George Farquhar, senior partner of a London firm, sends his junior Westray to Cullerne Minster with a warning. The roofs need work, the money is thin, and the central tower is not to be discussed. Sir George calls the rector an ass but admits he guards the place in law.

Cullerne is a fallen seaport. Now its river has silted up and a sandbar cuts off the harbour.

Canon Parkyn, the rector, greets him with a flood of self-praise and calls the Norman arches light and yet strong as rock. Westray looks up at the crossing and sees a thin jagged crack on the south side. He has been told to let sleeping dogs lie. Yet the old builders' saying comes to him. The arch never sleeps.

The first thing Westray learns in Cullerne is that someone is hiding a danger in plain sight.
