Kybalion in short

The Kybalion builds its case in a straight line. Beneath a changing world stands The All, an infinite living mind. The universe is a mental creation held in that mind, and it is real to those who live in it.

What Kybalion is about

Have you ever noticed how your mood rises and falls without any reason you can name? A short book from the early twentieth century says the swing has a cause, and that you can learn to stand above it.

That is the promise of The Kybalion, published in 1908 by three writers who call themselves the Three Initiates. They explain an old Hermetic teaching tied to Hermes Trismegistus, a legendary sage of ancient Egypt. They offer seven principles as a master key.

Dla kogo. Readers who love esoteric ideas, ancient symbols like the Pyramids and the Philosopher's Stone, and short lessons linking mind, physics and moods. It also suits those curious about mental self-mastery.

The 8 key ideas

Hermes carries a secret teaching out of Egypt

The book claims a very old source. Its authors say the hidden wisdom of many nations flowed out of ancient Egypt, the home of the Pyramids and the Sphinx. They name one man as the root of it all, Hermes Trismegistus, the Master of Masters.

After his death the Egyptians made him the god Thoth, and the Greeks made him Hermes, god of wisdom. The word hermetic, which now means sealed, still carries his name because his followers kept their teachings closed.

Why the secrecy? The authors answer that teachings die when they harden into creeds. They say priests mixed theology into philosophy until the inner meaning faded. So Hermetic teachers shared the truth only with ready students. When they did write, they hid their meaning in the language of alchemy and astrology. The Philosopher's Stone, in this view, is a picture of changing the mind, not of turning lead into gold.

The Kybalion is described as a set of short sayings handed from teacher to student. Readers must apply the principles themselves, or the teaching stays words.

The Kybalion offers itself as a guarded Egyptian teaching whose seven principles act as one master key.

Pytania o Kybalion

What is The Kybalion about?

It sets out seven Hermetic principles, mentalism, correspondence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, and gender. Together they claim that the universe is mental and that a trained person can master moods and circumstances.

Who was Hermes Trismegistus?

The book treats him as a sage of ancient Egypt, the Master of Masters, later turned into the god Thoth. His name means thrice great. Historians see him as a legendary figure linked to Hermetic writings.

What does as above, so below mean?

It is the Principle of Correspondence. The laws that act on one level of life match those on others, so a person can reason from what is known to what is not.

Is The Kybalion an ancient text?

The authors say it explains a very old Hermetic teaching, but the book itself was published in 1908 under the name Three Initiates. Many scholars link it to William Walker Atkinson.

Is The Kybalion easy to read?

The book is short and split into clear lessons. Each opens with a brief saying, then explains it in plain language with simple examples such as a thermometer, a spinning wheel and a pendulum.
