Sztuka wojny in short
Sun Tzu's argument runs in one line. War costs so much that it must be studied, won quickly and avoided when a better road exists. Weigh the facts, secure your own position, and strike only where the enemy is thin.
What Sztuka wojny is about
Imagine a general who wins a war and never fights a battle. Sun Tzu says that is the highest kind of general. The claim sounds odd at first, yet the whole book builds toward it, one short rule after another.
The Art of War is a Chinese treatise on strategy, credited to Sun Tzu, a soldier who wrote it for his patron Ho Lu, king of the state of Wu, more than two thousand years ago. It has thirteen chapters. You get rules on cost, deception, speed, ground, morale and information, each tested against real campaigns.
Dla kogo. Readers who enjoy strategy, history and sharp sayings will love this book, as will those drawn to rivalry, risk, timing and leadership.

Weigh five factors before any war begins
Sun Tzu opens with a blunt claim. War is a matter of life and death for a state, a path to safety or to ruin, so it must be studied. He names five constant factors to weigh. The first is the Moral Law, which is harmony between ruler and people. The second is Heaven, meaning night and day, cold and heat, and the seasons. The third is Earth, meaning distances and narrow passes. The fourth is the Commander, who needs wisdom, courage and strictness. The fifth is method and discipline.
He turns these factors into questions to ask about both sides. Which ruler is in harmony with his people? Which general is abler? Which side enforces discipline more firmly? With the answers, Sun Tzu says, he can predict victory or defeat. A commentator tells of the warlord Ts'ao Ts'ao, who made a rule against trampling grain. When his own horse shied into a field, he condemned himself to death. The law binds the one who makes it.
Sun Tzu also says that all warfare rests on deception. When able to attack, seem unable. Offer bait, and strike where the enemy is unprepared. The general who wins makes many calculations before the fight, and the one who loses makes few.
Count the facts first, because most battles are won or lost before they begin.
