Part VI di 9 · 5 min per leggere la parte

In VI, Socrates draws Hermogenes into the banquet conversation, but the Syracusan resents the guests’ neglect of his entertainment and attacks Socrates with mocking questions. Socrates then restrains Philippus from answering insult with comparisons, and the brief quarrel comes to an end.

  2. Socrates, Callias, and Antisthenes joke about flute accompaniment for conversation and questioning.
  3. The Syracusan resents the attention given to conversation and mocks Socrates’s reputation for abstract thought and measurements.
  4. Antisthenes invites Philippus to compare the Syracusan to a bully, but Socrates discourages insulting comparisons.
  5. Philippus asks how to earn his dinner without speaking, and Socrates advises him to avoid improper remarks.
