The Symposium, Part VII: riassunto

Part VII di 9 · 2 min per leggere la parte

In VII, Socrates answers the noisy gathering with a song, then questions whether dangerous tricks and astonishing feats provide suitable pleasure at a banquet. He proposes dancing to flute music instead, seeking enjoyment for both performers and spectators, and the Syracusan agrees to arrange a pleasing performance.

Cosa succede

  1. Some guests encourage the jester to continue his comparisons, while others try to stop him.
  2. Socrates proposes singing together and begins a song above the noise.
  3. After the song, a potter’s wheel arrives for the dancing girl’s performance.
  4. Socrates questions dangerous acrobatics and spinning tricks, arguing that amazement alone does not provide suitable banquet entertainment.
  5. He suggests graceful dancing to flute music, and the Syracusan accepts his proposal.
