Shakespeare's Sonnet 41

Shakespeare szavai mellett egy egyszerű, mai nyelvű változat, sorról sorra. Ingyen olvasható.

Those pretty wrongs that liberty commits,When I am sometime absent from thy heart,Thy beauty, and thy years full well befits,For still temptation follows where thou art.Gentle thou art, and therefore to be won,Beauteous thou art, therefore to be assail’d;And when a woman woos, what woman’s sonWill sourly leave her till he have prevail’d?Ay me! but yet thou mightst my seat forbear,And chide thy beauty and thy straying youth,Who lead thee in their riot even thereWhere thou art forced to break a twofold truth:Hers by thy beauty tempting her to thee,Thine by thy beauty being false to me.

Those pretty little sins you commit when you give yourself freedom,
when I am sometimes absent from your heart,
suit your beauty and your youth all too well,
for temptation follows you everywhere.
You are charming, and therefore people want to win you;
you are beautiful, and therefore people pursue you.
And when a woman makes advances, what man
would coldly leave her before having his way?
Oh, but you could at least have left my place in her bed alone
and scolded your beauty and your wandering youth,
which lead you in their wild behavior to the very place
where you are driven to break two bonds of loyalty:
hers, because your beauty tempts her to you,
and yours, because your beauty makes you betray me.

A modern változat a teljes szöveget tartalmazza?

Igen. A szonett minden sora szerepel benne mai, közérthető angol nyelven, Shakespeare eredeti szavai mellett, ugyanabban a sorrendben.
