Chapter 23 od 28 · 15 min za čitanje poglavlja

In Chapter 23, Sir Kenneth discovers that his physician is Ilderim of Kurdistan, who declares him free and offers a way to restore his reputation by identifying the banner thief. After a heated dispute about Edith Plantagenet, Kenneth accepts a disguise and agrees to deliver Saladin’s letter to her, provided his faith and honor remain intact.

Što se događa

  1. Sir Kenneth wakes in a luxurious tent and suspects that the rich clothes are intended to tempt him away from Christianity.
  2. The physician appears as Ilderim of Kurdistan, rejects forced conversion, and tells Kenneth that he is free.
  3. Their conversation about Richard’s wife and Edith Plantagenet provokes anger, but both men reaffirm their friendship.
  4. Kenneth admits his love for Edith and his belief that disgrace destroys his hopes.
  5. Ilderim proposes disguising Kenneth and his recovered hound so they can expose the thief responsible for stealing England’s banner.
  6. Kenneth agrees to carry Saladin’s respectful letter to Edith, but refuses any further role in the courtship.
