What makes a true champion when winning a fight is not the same as doing right?
King Arthur’s Round Table asks more of its knights than strength. They must defend others, keep promises, and honor their fellowship. In The Story of the Champions of the Round Table, Howard Pyle follows Sir Launcelot, Sir Tristram, and Sir Percival through castles, forests, tournaments, and dangerous journeys, where bold deeds meet difficult choices.
Launcelot grows up under the Lady of the Lake’s protection, but his extraordinary gifts cannot earn his reputation alone. Tristram faces the demands of love alongside those of martial skill. Percival, raised away from knightly life, approaches chivalry without worldly experience. Across their linked adventures, loyalty and duty test what each champion stands for.

What is The Story of the Champions of the Round Table about?
It follows three knights of King Arthur's court in three books. Launcelot rises from a hidden childhood to fame, Tristram is torn between honor and love, and Percival comes out of a mountain tower to learn knighthood.
Who is the Lady of the Lake in this book?
She is a fay woman who carries the child Launcelot into an enchanted lake, raises him with the help of Sir Pellias, and presents him to King Arthur to be knighted. She also gives Percival a protective amulet.
Is this a true story and when was it written?
No, it is legend. Howard Pyle gathered old Arthurian tales into his own retelling, written as a companion to his earlier book about King Arthur. The knights are figures of medieval romance rather than recorded history.
