The Aeneid, Book 12 — streszczenie

Book 12 z 12 · 46 min czytania księgi

In Book 12, Turnus insists on facing Aeneas alone, but Juturna provokes resistance to their treaty, and renewed fighting leaves Aeneas wounded. Venus secretly heals her son, who returns to battle seeking Turnus, while Juturna takes control of her brother’s chariot and steers him around the field.

Co się wydarza

  1. Turnus rejects Latinus’s advice and Amata’s pleas, demanding a duel with Aeneas for Lavinia.
  2. The armies assemble, and Aeneas and Latinus swear terms that preserve Latinus’s rule if Aeneas wins.
  3. At Saturnia’s urging, Juturna disguises herself, inflames the Rutulians, and supplies a deceptive bird omen.
  4. Tolumnius throws a spear, fighting resumes, and an unidentified arrow wounds Aeneas as he tries to restore peace.
  5. Turnus kills numerous enemies while Iapis struggles to treat Aeneas, until Venus secretly supplies a successful remedy.
  6. Aeneas returns and searches for Turnus, but Juturna replaces Metiscus and drives her brother’s chariot through the battlefield.
