3. Food shortages force him to leave, and an old man flees when he enters a hut.
4. Villagers attack him, so he escapes and hides in a small shelter adjoining a cottage.
5. Through a crack, he watches a young woman, a young man, and an old man working, eating, and comforting one another.
6. Their music and affection stir unfamiliar emotions, and he watches their evening activities until they extinguish their lights.
