Who Mina Murray is
Mina Murray is clever and hardworking, with a practical interest in shorthand and typing. Her letters to her friend Lucy Westenra bring warmth and humour into a story of growing danger.
While Jonathan travels to Transylvania on business, Mina waits in England for news of him. His letters become few and strange, and her anxiety grows when they stop arriving altogether.
What Mina Murray wants
Mina wants to support Jonathan in his work and protect the friend she cares about. Her useful skills also matter beyond those personal hopes, as she gathers the documents that tell the story.
Mina Murray and the others in the story
Mina and Lucy spend part of the summer together in the seaside town of Whitby. When Lucy walks in her sleep, Mina searches the dark streets and finds her in the churchyard. She brings Lucy home and keeps what happened secret out of loyalty and care.
Her concern for Lucy sits beside her worry about Jonathan, whose absence leaves her waiting for answers. Through these ties, Mina brings practical care and close attention to the people threatened by the Count.
