Who Konstantin Levin is
Konstantin Levin lives mostly on his country estate and distrusts the polished manners of city society. He is rich, awkward and stubborn, more at home with farming than with the confidence expected in Moscow drawing rooms. His story runs alongside Anna's, bringing questions about love and meaning into fields and family life.
What Konstantin Levin wants
Levin wants to marry Kitty Shcherbatskaya, Dolly's younger sister, whom he has loved for a long time. When Kitty refuses him because she believes she loves Vronsky, he returns to the country in sorrow.
He throws himself into estate work, questioning how farming works and how a landowner should deal with peasants. While mowing alongside peasant workers, he finds a rhythm that briefly lets him forget himself.
How Konstantin Levin changes
Levin's search reaches beyond marriage and farming to questions about faith and what makes life worth living. He cannot accept easy answers, whether from his brothers or from the beliefs of his childhood. When he and Kitty meet again, their feelings remain, but love does not remove his doubts. Their married life asks him to learn that a family takes daily care, not simply a declaration of love.
