Light breaks through dark skies, and small human figures stand before the vast events of the Bible.

In The Doré Bible Gallery, Complete, Gustave Doré presents biblical stories through landscapes, crowds, and sharp contrasts of light and darkness. The pictures follow the order of the Bible, drawing on the Old Testament, the Apocrypha, and the New Testament. This is a gallery to explore with your eyes, rather than a continuous text.

The journey opens with the creation of light in Genesis and follows Abraham’s family, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses. Prophets stand against kings and crowds. The Gospel scenes depict Jesus’s birth, teaching, healing, arrest, and death, before the gallery turns to the apostles and the visions of Revelation. Throughout, Doré places human figures within scenes of immense scale.
