About this book

What if the visible world is only one part of life—and death is not its end?

In The Rosicrucian Mysteries, Max Heindel introduces the Rosicrucian tradition through questions that reach into everyday life. What are we made of? Why are lives so unequal? What happens when we die? In plain terms, he sets out his account of unseen worlds and the human being’s place within them.

Heindel links his theory of rebirth to the Law of Consequence: the teaching that every act brings a result, in this life or another. He also presents a Christian path of inner growth, with Christ at its centre. These are his spiritual teachings, offered as a connected system to explore and question, rather than a critical history of the order.

What you’ll discover

  • Worlds within the world Explore Heindel’s claim that unseen worlds overlap the physical world rather than lie far away.
  • More than a body Meet his picture of a human being as several parts working together.
  • A life looked back upon Follow his account of the spirit’s departure, life review, and purification after death.
  • Rebirth and its consequences Consider how repeated lives and the results of actions explain inequality within his system.
  • A Christian inner path Discover the central place Heindel gives Christ in spiritual growth and humanity’s development.

A hidden Western school guards a message

Heindel begins with the people behind the teaching. He says a human being is a spirit that unfolds its powers across many lives, guided by exalted beings. In his picture the earth is a school, and each religion is a lesson for pupils at the stage they have reached.

What is The Rosicrucian Mysteries about?

It is an introduction to Rosicrucian teaching by Max Heindel. It covers the order itself, the riddle of death, rebirth, the unseen worlds, the bodies of a human being, life after death, and the upbringing of children.

Who was Christian Rosenkreuz?

Heindel says Christian Rosenkreuz, or Christian Rose Cross, is the symbolic name of a spiritual teacher who appeared in central Europe in the thirteenth century and founded the Order of the Rosy Cross, the Mystery school of the West.

What is the Desire World in Rosicrucian teaching?

It is the second of three interpenetrating worlds, made of a fine matter that responds to feeling. Heindel says it is the realm of color where the dead stay after leaving the body and where purgatory and the first heaven lie.
