Informazioni sul libro

What if everyone sees a destiny in you, but no one sees the life you want?

Rachel Dove grows up in southern Africa, the daughter of a missionary. She wants attachments and choices of her own. Yet other people see more than a young woman in her, drawing her into struggles over prophecy, religious authority, and power. Her apparent destiny makes her someone to protect, possess, or use.

Her relationship with Noie, an African woman connected to another religious world, draws Rachel beyond the missionary household and the struggle for power in Zululand. The adventure moves toward the mysterious people associated with the Ghost Kings. As the forest becomes more than difficult ground to cross, personal loyalty presses against sacred duty.

What is The Ghost Kings about?

It follows Rachel Dove, a missionary's daughter in southern Africa, who is hailed as a spirit by the Zulus. Her love for Richard Darrien, her friendship with Noie and a dangerous hunter named Ishmael draw her into Dingaan's kingdom and beyond.

Who is Noie in The Ghost Kings?

Noie is a half-Zulu girl, the daughter of the wizard Seyapi, whom Rachel saves from a warrior. She becomes Rachel's devoted servant and sister, with gifts of dreams and knowledge of the dwarf people of the north.

Who are the Ghost Kings?

They are the three priests of a small, secretive people of the north, called the Dream People, who read the future in bowls of dew. Noie belongs to this people by blood, and the Zulus call on them for an oracle.
