His confidence in their combined efforts meets a sharp disappointment when he visits Richefeu’s and finds Grantaire absorbed in dominoes.

Što se događa

  1. At a secret Café Musain meeting, Enjolras assigns his friends to check support among students, workers, and other contacts.
  2. He identifies the Barrière du Maine as a neglected assignment because its workers are losing enthusiasm and Marius no longer attends.
  3. Grantaire volunteers, answers Enjolras’s doubts with professions of loyalty and political knowledge, and receives permission to go.
  4. Grantaire puts on a red waistcoat, reassures Enjolras, and leaves as the others depart for their tasks.
  5. On his way to the Cougourde gathering, Enjolras imagines his friends’ combined efforts igniting revolutionary action.
  6. Enjolras stops at Richefeu’s at one and finds Grantaire playing dominoes instead of rallying the workers.
