Sažetak djela Homer (Chapter 16)

Chapter 16 od 26 · 12 min čitanja: chapter

In Chapter 16, Ulysses consults the dead, learns the danger of harming the Sun’s cattle, and recounts his passage past the Sirens and sea monsters. His companions slaughter the sacred animals despite their oath, bringing divine punishment that destroys their ship and leaves him the sole survivor.

Što se događa

  1. Following Circe’s instructions, Ulysses offers blood to summon the dead, and Tiresias warns him against harming the Sun’s herds.
  2. Anticleia explains her death from grief; Ulysses cannot embrace her, and other spirits describe loss, resentment, and their concern for surviving sons.
  3. Ulysses describes punishments in the underworld, then flees when the gathering ghosts overwhelm him.
  4. His bound position and his crew’s blocked ears protect them from the Sirens; passage between Scylla and Charybdis costs six lives.
  5. Bad weather traps the voyagers beside the sacred herds, and Eurylochus persuades the hungry crew to slaughter cattle while Ulysses sleeps.
  6. Jupiter destroys their ship; Ulysses survives, reaches Calypso’s island, and connects his release there with his arrival among his present hosts.
