In Chapter 12, Minerva inspires Telemachus to challenge the suitors who consume his absent father’s wealth, while Penelope struggles to delay another marriage. When the public assembly offers no effective help, Telemachus secretly prepares a voyage to seek news of Ulysses and sails with the goddess beside him.

  3. Telemachus asserts household authority over Penelope and warns the suitors that he intends to demand their departure publicly.
  4. At the assembly, Antinous exposes Penelope’s nightly undoing of her weaving, and the suitors refuse to leave.
  5. Halitherses interprets two fighting eagles as a sign of Ulysses’ approaching return, but the assembly gives Telemachus no support.
  6. With Eurycleia supplying provisions and Minerva arranging transport, Telemachus leaves secretly by ship under the goddess’s guidance.
