About this book
What use is a sharp blade in a lonely place where old magic stirs beneath the moon?
In Robert E. Howard’s Shadows in the Moonlight, Conan is a wanderer and fighter far from any city he knows. A strange stretch of land draws him into danger, where moonlight and old magic make appearances uncertain. Survival calls for more than strength: he needs wit as well as steel.
The ancient Hyborian world is a place of fallen kingdoms, scattered ruins and threats that muscle cannot easily overcome. Conan meets it on his own terms, guided by his own rules. This short, headlong adventure brings the barbarian’s fierce appetite for life against the uncanny, with survival at its heart.

In short
Shadows in the Moonlight is a Conan adventure by Robert E. Howard, the American pulp writer who died in 1936.
From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
A fugitive and a killer meet
The story opens in the reeds beside Vilayet. Olivia, daughter of the King of Ophir, has fled a feast in Akif on a stolen horse. Shah Amurath, the Hyrkanian lord of Akif, catches her, mocks her and hurts her wrist for pleasure. Her father sold her to a Shemite chief because she refused to marry a prince of Koth, and the chief passed her on as a gift.
Then a wild figure bursts from the reeds. He is Conan of Cimmeria, wearing only a loincloth stiff with mud and dried blood. He belonged to the Free Companions, a band of five thousand raiders crushed by fifteen thousand of Shah Amurath's men near the Ilbars River. Conan has hidden in the marshes for days, eating raw musk rats, and he kills the Hyrkanian in a frenzy of hatred.
