  3. Boldwood offers Troy money to leave Bathsheba and marry Fanny, and Troy accepts fifty pounds.
  4. After overhearing Bathsheba speak lovingly to Troy, Boldwood attacks him, then offers more money for him to marry her.
  5. At Bathsheba’s chained door, Troy shows Boldwood a newspaper notice proving that their marriage has already taken place.
  6. Troy throws back the money, Boldwood threatens punishment, and the farmer wanders across Weatherbury throughout the night.
