Sammanfattning av The Time Machine, Chapter 16

In Chapter 16, the Time Traveller faces disbelief, checks his damaged machine, and prepares another journey to obtain proof for the narrator. The narrator finds both man and machine disappearing from the laboratory, then waits for a return that has not happened after three years.

Vad händer

  1. The Time Traveller invites judgment of his account, but his guests remain doubtful and examine the strange flowers.
  2. His own memories seem uncertain until he and the guests inspect the damaged Time Machine.
  3. The guests leave, and the narrator remains undecided despite thinking about the story through much of the night.
  4. The next day, the narrator returns, and the Time Traveller promises evidence while carrying a camera and knapsack.
  5. The narrator hears sudden noises and briefly sees a transparent figure before discovering that the man and machine are gone.
  6. A servant confirms that nobody leaves through the garden, and the narrator reports three years of waiting without a return.
