Handling

1. Duncan explains the mysterious sound as a horse’s cry, replacing Hawkeye’s belief in a supernatural warning.
2. The travelers sleep while Hawkeye and the Mohicans watch the riverbanks until dawn.
3. Enemy rifle fire wounds David, and the defenders shelter the sisters and prepare to hold the island until help arrives.
4. Five attackers approach through the river; one falls over the cataract, while four reach cover on the island.
5. Hawkeye and Uncas shoot two charging enemies, but Duncan and Hawkeye miss with their pistols and fight the remaining pair.
6. Hawkeye kills his opponent, Uncas rescues Duncan from the brink, and the defenders return to cover.
