Who Casca is

Casca is a senator whose plain speaking gives a scornful view of Caesar's popularity in Rome. He mocks Caesar in private while the city's crowds celebrate their victorious leader.

Casca and the others in the story

Casca tells Brutus and Cassius that Mark Antony offers Caesar a crown three times. Caesar refuses each offer, though Casca thinks he wants to accept it. His account makes the public ceremony seem like theatre, rather than a clear sign of Caesar's intentions.

Brutus listens uneasily, while Cassius is already looking for support against Caesar. Casca's account belongs to a city divided by admiration, suspicion and fear of a king.

How Casca changes

During the storm, Casca tells Cicero about strange sights, including a lion in the street and men walking in fire. Cassius welcomes the storm as a sign that the heavens are angry at Caesar. Casca joins the conspiracy, moving from private mockery into the gathering plot.
