Chapter 25 de 38 · 21 min para ler o chapter

In Chapter 25, Jane awaits her wedding anxiously and tells Rochester that an unfamiliar woman enters her bedroom during his absence and tears her veil. He attributes the visit to Grace Poole and the stranger’s appearance to a nightmare, but Jane remains unsatisfied and spends the remaining night awake beside Adèle.

O que acontece

  1. With her wedding preparations complete, Jane walks outside in strong wind and studies the split chestnut tree.
  2. Worried by Rochester’s absence, Jane goes beyond the gates, meets him riding home, and returns with him.
  3. Jane describes two dreams in which she carries a child and cannot prevent separation from Rochester.
  4. She recounts waking to an unfamiliar woman who wears her veil, tears it, and frightens her into fainting.
  5. The torn veil makes Rochester acknowledge a real intrusion, which he attributes to Grace Poole without fully satisfying Jane.
  6. At Rochester’s request, Jane shares Adèle’s bed, but remains awake until sunrise and leaves the child tearfully.
