Crônicas de Avonlea in short

Chronicles of Avonlea gathers twelve stories about the people around Anne Shirley's village. A suitor is pushed forward, a proud woman gives in secret, a boy is torn between love and his gift, and two old people wait for beloved girls. Lovers will not speak, a man hater is shut in with her enemy, and a baby is bought at an auction.

What Crônicas de Avonlea is about

What would you do if the man who courts you twice a week had done so for fifteen years and never once asked the question? Theodora Dix simply waits. Then a red-haired visitor named Anne Shirley decides that waiting has gone on long enough.

Chronicles of Avonlea was written by L. M. Montgomery, the Canadian author of Anne of Green Gables. It gathers twelve short stories set in and around Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. You meet shy lovers, a proud old woman with a secret, a boy with a violin, and a baby sold at an auction.

Para quem é. This book suits readers who enjoy warm, funny stories about village neighbors, who like watching stubborn people soften, and who love short tales set among island gardens and sea light.

Anne Plots to Hurry a Slow Suitor

Ludovic Speed walks down the Dix lane twice a week, as he has for fifteen years, and all of Middle Grafton knows why. Theodora Dix waits at the end of it, cheerful and quite ready to marry him. But Ludovic has never asked.

Theodora explains it without a blush. The Speeds are all terribly deliberate and spend years thinking before they act. Anne finds the affair funny and maddening, and she offers a plan. She enlists Arnold Sherman, a handsome widower from Boston who likes a little mischief.

The first act comes after prayer meeting, in bright moonlight, with Ludovic leaning on the graveyard fence. What he sees there shakes him from head to foot. Sometimes love needs a nudge, and a friend with a plan can give it.

Dúvidas sobre Crônicas de Avonlea

It is a collection of twelve short stories by L. M. Montgomery about neighbors in and around Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. They cover courtships, family secrets, small miracles and quarrels, with warm humor and feeling.

Is Anne Shirley in Chronicles of Avonlea?

Anne appears as a minor figure in several stories. She plans a scheme in the first tale and passes through a few others as a girl people remember. Most stories focus on other villagers instead.

No. Each story stands on its own and introduces its people clearly. Readers who know Anne will enjoy her cameos, but newcomers can start here and follow every tale without any earlier reading.

They share the setting of Avonlea and nearby villages such as Carmody and Spencervale, and some people recur, like the Reverend Stephen Leonard. Each tale has its own characters and complete plot.
