Cavanagh, guarda florestal in short

What Cavanagh, guarda florestal is about
What happens when a girl who has dreamed of the old frontier for ten years finally steps back into it? Lee Virginia Wetherford expects spurred cowboys and a mother who is glad to see her. She finds a motor car where the stagecoach used to run, a town buzzing with flies, and a mother who tells her to go away.
Cavanagh, Forest Ranger is a novel by Hamlin Garland, a romance of the mountain West. He sets a love story inside the years when the national forests were new and the open range was closing. You get a courtship, an adventure and a sharp argument about who owns the land.
Para quem é. Readers who enjoy Western adventure with a conscience will love this book, as will anyone drawn to mountain scenery, brave heroines, or the early days of American conservation.

Lee Virginia Finds the West Has Changed
Lee Virginia Wetherford starts her journey in high spirits. She has spent ten years with an aunt near Philadelphia, and she carries a picture of the West as a place of bold cowboys, with her own father as a free and daring leader.
The old stagecoach is gone. A shining red automobile now makes the trip to Roaring Fork in five hours. Along the road she sees wire fences and painted farmhouses where only sagebrush grew before. Sam Gregg curses the ranger Ross Cavanagh, and passengers criticize the food served by Lee's mother, leaving Lee crimson and burning.
Her mother's boardinghouse is worse than the gossip. Flies swarm over the tablecloths, and a fly floats in Lee's coffee. Her mother, Lize, greets her without warmth and says she told her to stay East. That night the bed crawls with vermin, and Lee ends the day dressed and standing on the floor.
A remembered past can be glorious, but a present that needs your hands deserves a clear look.

Who wrote Cavanagh, Forest Ranger and when?
Hamlin Garland, an American author who died in 1940, wrote it. It was set in the years when national forests and the Forest Service were new, and the old cattle range was giving way to farms and law.
