The Time Machine, Chapter 6: samenvatting

Wat er gebeurt

1. The narrator finds his friendly hosts easily distracted and leaves their hall to explore the surrounding landscape.
2. He notices ruined structures and no small houses, then guesses that communal living replaces individual households.
3. Similar clothing and bodies lead him to speculate that safety removes differences between the sexes and the need for families.
4. From a hilltop seat, he surveys palaces, greenery, and the Thames without visible farming or property boundaries.
5. He reasons that humanity conquers disease, labor, and danger, then loses the strength and intelligence that hardship demands.
6. He connects the ruins with possible population decline, but calls his apparently convincing theory wrong.
