Wat er gebeurt

1. After a libation and hymn, a Syracusan introduces musicians and a dancer, and Socrates turns talk of perfume toward character and good companions.
2. The dancing girl juggles twelve hoops, prompting Socrates to defend women’s capacity for training and explain his choice of Xanthippe as his wife.
3. The girl tumbles through a sword-lined hoop, and Socrates presents her courage as evidence that bravery can be taught.
4. The boy’s dancing leads Socrates to praise balanced exercise, request lessons, and defend his own dancing against the company’s laughter.
5. Charmides confirms seeing Socrates dance, Callias asks to join his lessons, and Philippus performs an exhausting comic imitation.
6. When the company turns to drinking, Socrates recommends frequent small cups, and everyone approves.
