De zoon van Tarzan in short
The Son of Tarzan follows a boy who has everything in London and gives it up by accident. Jack Clayton flees to Africa with an ape and becomes Korak, a jungle fighter, while the girl Meriem grows from a beaten child into a young woman. Around them move a ruined Russian, two Swedish poachers, a cruel sheik and an English snob.
What De zoon van Tarzan is about
Who ties up a tutor with bedsheets, slides down a drainpipe and runs across London at night just to see a trained ape? Jack Clayton does, and he is the son of a lord who was once Tarzan of the Apes. When the great ape Ajax looks into the boy's face in a crowded music hall, something old and powerful wakes up.
Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote The Son of Tarzan as a sequel to his first Tarzan novel. Jack's mother, Jane, fears that the wild runs in the blood, so she keeps every hint of the jungle from her son. Her fear proves right. You get fights with lions and apes, a cruel sheik, a doll with an ivory head and a boy who learns the law of the forest.
Voor wie is het?. Readers who love jungle adventure, loyal animal friends and old-fashioned cliffhangers will enjoy this book. It suits anyone who liked Tarzan of the Apes and wants to follow the next generation.

A ruined man brings a searching ape to London
The book opens on the Ugambi river in Africa, where sailors spot a skeletal white man waving from the bank. He gives his name as Michael Sabrov, but he is really Alexis Paulvitch, once a partner of the villain Rokoff in schemes against Tarzan. Ten years among cannibals have bent his body and scarred his face. His one feeling is hatred, aimed at Rokoff and above all at Tarzan.
A huge ape walks up to the sleeping Russian and tugs his shoulder. The animal studies the face of every sailor, sighs almost like a person and moves on. Paulvitch sees money in such a creature and keeps saying the ape is his.
The ape, named Ajax, spends the voyage staring ahead as if someone waits in the next port. In London a trainer agrees to show him in music halls. Every night on stage he searches the audience.
Hatred and loyalty both arrive in London, and both are looking for the same man.

Vragen over De zoon van Tarzan
What is The Son of Tarzan about?
It follows Jack Clayton, the son of Tarzan and Jane, who runs away from London with the ape Akut and grows up in the African jungle as Korak. He meets a girl named Meriem, and adventure, danger and love follow.
Who is Korak in The Son of Tarzan?
Korak is the jungle name Akut gives to Jack Clayton. It means Killer in the ape language. Jack adopts it after he leaves civilization and begins to live among apes, hunting and fighting by his father's skills.
Do you need to read Tarzan of the Apes first?
Not strictly. The book explains Tarzan's early life when he tells his son, and it introduces its own cast. Readers learn that Akut is Tarzan's old friend and that the Russian Paulvitch is his old enemy.
Who is Meriem and what is Geeka?
Meriem is a girl raised in an Arab village by a cruel man called The Sheik. Geeka is her doll, with an ivory head and a rat-skin body. She confides in it and carries it into the jungle.
Is The Son of Tarzan easy to read?
Yes, in the sense that the plot moves fast. Chapters are short, the style is lively and direct, and the narrator often speaks to the reader. Many chapters end on a cliffhanger, which keeps the pages turning.
