In Chapter 36, Kit prepares the old Commander’s body and discovers a New Testament whose inscriptions remind him of his own mother’s gift. Unable to bury the man or remain beside him, he leaves the book and sword with the body, then kneels, kisses his forehead, and salutes.

Wat er gebeurt

  1. Without tools or time for burial, Kit straightens the old man’s body and discovers a small New Testament in his coat.

  3. Remembering his own mother’s gift, Kit decides that the old man’s book belongs with its owner.
