Who Captain Hook is
Captain Hook leads the pirates in Neverland, where the children's adventures bring them close to real danger. He wears a hook in place of his right hand and combines elegance with cruelty.
He cares about good form, even while his actions show how dangerous he is. That concern makes him a comic figure as well as a threat to Peter and the children.
What Captain Hook wants
Hook wants revenge above all else, and his thoughts return constantly to Peter. He also worries that he is not well liked, revealing anxiety beneath his proud appearance.
Captain Hook and the others in the story
Peter cuts off Hook's hand and throws it to a crocodile, which follows the captain after tasting it. The crocodile has also swallowed a clock, whose ticking warns Hook whenever it comes near.
Among Hook's crew is Smee, a cheerful man who mends spectacles and follows his captain loyally. Hook's fear and vanity offer a contrast to Peter's bravery, though Peter can also be vain and cruel.
