Ivanhoe, Chapter 34: samenvatting

Wat er gebeurt

1. At York Castle, John and Waldemar fear that missing allies and missing funds threaten their conspiracy.
2. De Bracy arrives battered, reports Front-de-Bœuf's death and the Templar's escape, and reveals Richard's presence in England.
3. John proposes intercepting Richard, but De Bracy refuses because Richard spares his life and an ambush violates his knightly duties.
4. After John invokes his father's servants, Waldemar agrees to lead the attack and summons armed men and trackers.
5. John claims to demand Richard's safety, then flatters De Bracy with the prospect of becoming High Marshal.
6. John questions Hugh Bardon about Waldemar's preparations and orders him to watch De Bracy secretly.

Waar je op kunt letten

De Bracy sets a firm limit on his service to John. His refusal separates knightly combat from the secret attack Waldemar agrees to undertake.
