Emma, Chapter 14: samenvatting

Wat er gebeurt

1. Emma enjoys Mrs. Weston’s welcome but struggles to ignore Mr. Elton’s attentions and his apparent lack of concern for Harriet.
2. Mr. Elton’s conversation prevents Emma from clearly hearing news about Frank Churchill, whom she imagines as a suitable possible husband.
3. At dinner, Mr. Weston tells Emma that Frank expects to arrive within a fortnight, provided visitors to Enscombe are postponed.
4. Mrs. Weston doubts the visit because Mrs. Churchill controls whether Frank can leave.
5. Emma argues that Frank ought to visit his father, while Mrs. Weston urges caution about judging another family’s restrictions.
