Who Kiche is
Kiche belongs to both the wild and the human world, with wolf instincts and a past among people. Before her cub receives the name White Fang, she shelters him in a cave beside a creek. Her care gives him warmth and protection, while hunger shapes the world outside.
Kiche and the others in the story
One Eye becomes Kiche's mate and hunts to bring meat to her and their cub. As White Fang begins to explore, she teaches him to recognize danger and the need to hunt.
Gray Beaver recognizes Kiche because she once belongs to his brother, and calls her by her old name. She comes to his hand, and White Fang enters the camp with her.
How Kiche changes
In the forest, Kiche helps her cub learn the difference between creatures that eat and creatures that are eaten.
