Sammendrag av The Aeneid, Book 8

Book 8 av 12 · 33 min å lese boka

In Book 8, Aeneas follows Tiber’s guidance to Evander, gains Arcadian cavalry under Pallas, and approaches the Tuscan army that needs a foreign commander. Venus secures armor from Vulcan and delivers it to her son, whose new shield depicts the achievements of his descendants, though he does not understand their identities.

Handlingen

  1. As Turnus gathers allies, Tiber appears to Aeneas in a dream and directs him to seek Evander’s help.
  2. Aeneas finds the promised white sow, sacrifices it to Juno, and sails upriver to Evander’s settlement.
  3. Evander welcomes Aeneas, explains the feast honoring Hercules for killing Cacus, and shows his guest the surrounding sites.
  4. Venus persuades Vulcan to forge armor, while Evander offers cavalry, entrusts Pallas to Aeneas, and recommends approaching the Tuscans.
  5. A heavenly sign encourages Aeneas; Evander bids Pallas a tearful farewell, and the mounted company reaches the Tuscan encampment.
  6. Venus delivers the armor, and Aeneas admires a shield showing Roman struggles and victories without knowing the people depicted.
