Informazioni sul libro
What if the life your family wants for you stands in the way of the path you must follow?
Han Xiangzi belongs to a family that prizes learning, examinations, and public service. His uncle, the stern Confucian official Han Yu, wants him to study and seek office. But Xiangzi feels drawn elsewhere: toward Daoist teachers and a life beyond ordinary ambitions.
In Yang Erzeng's The Story of Han Xiangzi, flowers bloom on command and immortal teachers test a pupil's resolve. Lü Dongbin guides Xiangzi toward the discipline of the Daoist way. Through their encounters, the novel sets family duty beside spiritual freedom, asking what a person must surrender to pursue a different life.
Cosa scoprirai

A crane and a roebuck begin it all
The book opens on Mount Zhiheng, where a white crane has spent three or four hundred years drinking dew and breathing sunlight. A friendly roebuck lives nearby. Both have grown strong enough to take human shape.
In the Han dynasty, a minister's daughter named Lingling is punished by an angry emperor and married to a tiny, clumsy farmer. She dies of misery and he hangs himself to follow her. The king of the dead sends them back as the crane and the roebuck, and promises that three hundred years later an immortal will set them right.
