Informazioni sul libro
What happens when a young girl's conscience asks more of her than the people around her expect?
In Susan Warner's Daisy, a young heiress faces the work of growing up and learning to stand on her own moral feet. A Southern plantation forms the setting, but Daisy's inner life is central: what she thinks, what she feels, and how she answers the pull of conscience.
For Daisy, doing right is not always the comfortable choice. Her sense of duty can pull against her own wishes or the people around her. Warner explores Christian faith through daily habits rather than grand speeches, giving small choices emotional weight. The invitation is to look closely at a child's struggle to live by what she believes.

Daisy travels south to a house that is not home
Daisy looks back on her childhood. Her life grew bright when she became a Christian just as she turned ten. Then her father is thrown from his horse and badly hurt, and the doctors send him abroad. Her mother goes with him, and Daisy is left with her Aunt Gary.
Aunt Gary takes her south by train through endless pine forests. At a lonely station her cousin Preston lifts her down and tries to cheer her. In Baytown she meets her new governess, Miss Pinshon, a young woman with long black curls and heavy eyes that never seem to blink. Preston jokes that she is a Gorgon who will turn Daisy to stone.

What is Daisy by Susan Warner about?
Daisy follows a young heiress who becomes a Christian, moves to her family's Southern plantation, and discovers slavery. She spends her youth trying to follow her conscience, giving what she can to others, and standing firm in school and society.
Who are Preston, Miss Pinshon and Dr. Sandford?
Preston is Daisy's cousin, a proud young Southerner who loves her but disagrees with her. Miss Pinshon is her strict governess at Magnolia. Dr. Sandford is a family friend and army surgeon who becomes her guardian.
What does the world does not know us mean in Daisy?
The phrase comes from the First Epistle of John. Daisy reads it to mean that those who belong to Christ may be misunderstood or overlooked by the world, and she decides to accept that rather than chase admiration.
