The Symposium, Part IX: riassunto

Part IX di 9 · 3 min per leggere la parte

In IX, Autolycus and Lycon leave, and a performance of Ariadne and Dionysus absorbs the remaining guests with its convincing affection. The lovers’ departure toward the marriage bed prompts the guests to disperse, while Socrates and a few companions join Callias for a walk.

Cosa succede

  1. Autolycus rises for exercise, and Lycon praises Socrates before leaving with his son.
  2. The Syracusan announces a bridal performance, and Ariadne enters and sits on a throne.
  3. Flute music announces Dionysus, who dances toward Ariadne and embraces her.
  4. The guests applaud as the performers exchange kisses and declarations of love that seem sincere.
  5. The lovers approach the marriage bed, and guests depart, either declaring plans to marry or returning to their wives.
  6. Socrates and a few others accompany Callias to see Lycon and Autolycus out and walk with them.
