Il gioiello delle sette stelle in short
The Jewel of Seven Stars begins with Ross dreaming of Margaret and ends with their wedding. Between them, a barrister is drawn into a house where an attack on an Egyptologist cannot be explained. A cat's claws fit the wounds, and lost lamps reappear in a drawer.
What Il gioiello delle sette stelle is about
What would you do if a groom hammered on your door at three in the morning with a note begging you to come at once? That is how The Jewel of Seven Stars begins for Malcolm Ross, a London barrister who dreams of a girl he met at a river picnic. Her father lies unconscious in a house crammed with Egyptian mummies.
Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, published this novel in 1903. It joins a detective puzzle, a love story and a ghost story rooted in ancient Egypt. You stand guard in sickrooms, chase stolen lamps, and watch a scholar prepare an experiment that could call the dead back to life.
A chi è rivolto. Readers who love gothic atmosphere, locked-room puzzles and Egyptian tombs will find all three here, with a love story and a bold experiment.

A midnight summons draws Ross into the house
The story opens with a dream. Ross sees himself in a boat beneath willow branches, listening to a young woman describe how lonely her new life is. The dream breaks into a ceaseless knocking at his door. A groom stands outside with a letter and a carriage waiting.
The note is from Margaret Trelawny. She fears for her injured father, Abel Trelawny. Ross rides to the house in Kensington Palace Gardens, with hope and fear fighting inside him, because she has chosen him above everyone else.
Margaret meets him in the hall, pale but commanding. She found her father on the floor before his great safe, his arm torn near the wrist. Around that wrist sits a gold bangle on triple steel links, with a tiny key fixed to it. Nobody can say why a man would wear such a thing.
A simple call for help opens a case that grows stranger with every room.

How it ends (spoiler)
The Great Experiment succeeds in part. The coffer glows, opens, and pours out smoke that overcomes the three men. When the air clears, Queen Tera's mummy is gone, leaving only fine dust, her hair ornament and the ruby. The cat's remains show similar dust. Ross and Margaret marry that autumn, and she wears the Queen's robe, girdle and jewel. Margaret tells Ross not to grieve, since the Queen may have found the joy she sought.
