Le straordinarie avventure di Arsène Lupin, ladro gentiluomo in short
The book gathers nine adventures of Arsène Lupin, a thief who dresses like a gentleman and treats crime as an art. Each tale sets a locked place, a watchful enemy and a clever surprise. The law, the press and the public all become pieces in his game.
What Le straordinarie avventure di Arsène Lupin, ladro gentiluomo is about
What happens when a whole ocean liner learns that a famous thief is sitting among the passengers? In the first tale of this book, a wireless message arrives in the middle of a storm and names Arsène Lupin. Within hours, every smile at dinner looks like a disguise.
Maurice Leblanc wrote these nine adventures in the early years of the twentieth century, when French newspapers fed on crime. Each one shows Lupin at work with wit and speed. He steals from castles and salons, never from the poor, and he treats the police as partners in a game. You get locked rooms, secret passages, forged letters and a prison that cannot hold its prisoner.
A chi è rivolto. You will love this book if you enjoy clever heists, secret passages, rival detectives and a hero who wins with charm. It suits readers who like quick, witty plots and short stories.

A wireless warning turns a liner into a puzzle
The first tale opens on the steamship La Provence. In the middle of a storm, a wireless message arrives. It says that Arsène Lupin is aboard in first cabin, blond, wounded in the right forearm, travelling alone under a name that begins with R. Then lightning cuts off the rest.
By evening, every passenger knows. The narrator is courting a rich young woman, Miss Nelly Underdown, and he proposes a game of reasoning with the passenger list. Only four men whose names start with R travel alone, and three are cleared at once. That leaves a quiet, pale, blond man named Rozaine, who admits the clues fit him.
Then Lady Jerland cries out that her jewels are stolen. The captain's watch vanishes and turns up in an officer's collar box. Nobody trusts a neighbour, a cabin mate or a friend. The crowd does Lupin's work by imagining him everywhere.
Takeaway: Lupin's reputation does half his work before he makes a single move.
