My Ántonia, Chapter 6: riassunto

Chapter 6 di 45 · Book 1: The Shimerdas · 5 min per leggere il capitolo

In Chapter 6, Jim and Ántonia interrupt their reading lesson to shelter a chilled insect whose song reminds her of a beloved village beggar. They meet Mr. Shimerda on their walk, and his response to the insect, his hunting, and his offer of a gun reveal both affection and deep sadness.

Cosa succede

  1. During their outdoor reading lesson, Ántonia tells Jim about badger hunting in her home country.
  2. Ántonia warms a weak green insect in her hands, and its chirping reminds her of Old Hata.
  3. She shelters the insect in her hair as she and Jim walk through the glowing autumn prairie.
  4. They meet Mr. Shimerda, who shows them three rabbits and promises Ántonia a hat from their skins.
  5. Mr. Shimerda listens to the insect and offers Jim his gun when Jim is older.
  6. Ántonia and her father leave together, while Jim runs home through the gathering chill.
