Rune XLVIII di 52 · Book II · 8 min per leggere: rune
In Rune XLVIII, Wainamoinen and Ilmarinen catch the Fire-pike with a magical net and a water sprite’s help, but the recovered flame escapes and burns the countryside. Wainamoinen finds the fire and brings it back to the hearths, while Ilmarinen calls for frost, snow, and divine aid to soothe his burns.
Cosa succede
- Workers grow flax and make a large net during one summer night, but the first fishing attempts fail to catch the Fire-pike.
- Wainamoinen enlarges the net, invokes the water powers, and accepts a small water sprite’s help in driving fish into it.
- The Sun-child cuts open the captured Fire-pike and the fish inside it, uncovering nested balls that contain heavenly fire.
- Wainamoinen grabs the flame, which burns both heroes before racing through trees, fields, and islands.
- Wainamoinen finds the Fire-child asleep in an elm, persuades it to serve household hearths, and carries it home in a tinderbox.
- Ilmarinen washes his burns and invokes powers of frost and Ukko, soothing the pain caused by the fire.
