What Cuori dei tre is about
What would you do if a stranger kissed you on a jungle beach, pressed a tiny pistol into your ribs, and ordered you never to come back? That is how Francis Morgan, a rich and idle New Yorker, meets Leoncia in Hearts of Three. She has mistaken him for another man, and the mistake sets off a run of chases and narrow escapes.
Jack London finished this novel in 1916, in Hawaii, working with the film man Charles Goddard. The book leaps from Wall Street to Panama, up into the mountains, and down into a forgotten valley.

A rich loafer is lured toward pirate gold
The story opens in a New York mansion on Riverside Drive. Francis Morgan, heir to his father's millions, lounges in his library and worries only about getting soft. He tells nervous friends to hold on to their shares in Tampico Petroleum, a Mexican oil company that holds most of his fortune.
What he does not know is that Thomas Regan, an old partner of his father, is quietly buying those shares and spreading doubt. He pays a visitor named Alvarez Torres to tell Francis of the buried treasure of Sir Henry Morgan, the buccaneer ancestor, then pretends to scoff at the tale.
Francis studies the old charts and takes a train south that same night. Regan never forces him. He only pushes him the way he already wants to go.
A man who has never had to fight for anything is the easiest man to send away.

How it ends (spoiler)
The Maya jewels Henry and Leoncia carry to New York save Francis from Regan's raid, and Francis hits back in the market. Torres dies trapped in the Maya pit, the Jefe is dead too, and the Queen is killed by Torres's bullet. Henry learns Leoncia is his sister, so she is free to marry Francis. The book ends with Francis walking in to meet her.
