Ben-Hur, Part 8, Chapter 9: riassunto

Part 8, Chapter 9 di 88 · Book 1 · 14 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 9, Ben-Hur learns that nearly all his Galilean followers abandon the Nazarene, then watches the wounded prisoner pass with the procession toward Golgotha. He tries to organize a rescue, but the Galileans offer to fight only for national freedom, leaving him unable to choose or command.

Cosa succede

  1. Two faithful officers report the Nazarene’s condemnation and tell Ben-Hur that his other followers side with the priests.
  2. Ben-Hur questions whether rescue opposes God’s purpose and rides toward Golgotha with the officers.
  3. Simonides, Esther, and Balthasar join him beside a house to watch the procession.
  4. The wounded Nazarene passes silently, while Simonides sees the gathered nations and priestly honors as evidence of his kingship.
  5. Remembering the Nazarene’s kindness, Ben-Hur urges a group of Galileans to gather armed followers for rescue.
  6. The Galileans reject the Nazarene but offer rebellion; Ben-Hur cannot answer and follows his friends.
