Ben-Hur, Part 8, Chapter 8: riassunto

Part 8, Chapter 8 di 88 · Book 1 · 11 min per leggere: chapter

In Chapter 8, Ben-Hur follows an armed procession and witnesses Judas betray the Nazarene, who accepts arrest, heals a wounded enemy, and receives no protection from his fleeing disciples. Ben-Hur offers rescue without receiving an answer, escapes the crowd, and recognizes that his hopes for a restored Judean kingdom are only a dream.

Cosa succede

  1. Ben-Hur leaves the celebrating crowds and follows a procession of religious leaders, servants, and Roman soldiers, recognizing Judas among them.
  2. At an olive orchard, Judas kisses the Nazarene, identifying the man the armed crowd comes to seize.
  3. A disciple wounds a man, but the Nazarene heals him, rejects armed resistance, and allows his captors to bind him.
  4. After the disciples disappear, Ben-Hur approaches the prisoner and asks whether he would accept rescue, but receives no response.
  5. The crowd attacks Ben-Hur, who escapes, retrieves his discarded garments, and rides from the khan to his people’s tents.
  6. Unable to sleep, Ben-Hur abandons his royal hopes and imagines a peaceful home with Esther.
