About this book
What if the search for your captive son draws you into a hidden kingdom’s struggle to survive?
In H. Rider Haggard’s Queen Sheba’s Ring, Dr. Adams enters dangerous country with one purpose: to recover his lost son. His search brings him to the Abati, a secluded African people who trace their ancestry to the Jews. Their mountain stronghold offers shelter, but it cannot settle the threat beyond its defenses.
Adams joins an expedition whose members bring different skills, including Oliver Orme’s engineering experience. Outside the kingdom stands Harmac, the Fung’s huge sacred image shaped like a lion. Within it, Maqueda must protect her people and guard her authority. A rescue mission becomes entangled with a dangerous undertaking, political rivalry, romance, and loyalties that cannot be taken for granted.

A ring and a bargain in London
Dr. Richard Adams arrives in London after twelve years in Africa and goes straight to the rooms of his old friend Professor Ptolemy Higgs. Higgs is a fiery, round, red-bearded scholar of dead languages who wears blue spectacles and quarrels with half the learned world. At his table sits Captain Oliver Orme, a young engineer and soldier who has just come back from the Boer War. Adams shows them a gold ring set with a sapphire.
Higgs reads the old Hebrew letters on the stone. They say that Solomon gave the ring to Maqueda, Queen of Sheba. Adams says he was lent it by a living woman, the ruler of a hidden people called the Abati, whose title means Child of Kings. Higgs at first calls the ring a fraud, then tests the gold and goes quiet.
