In Chapter 6, Badger, Mole, and Water Rat confine Toad to stop his dangerous driving, but he pretends to be seriously ill and escapes their watch. 1. Badger brings Mole and Water Rat to Toad Hall, dismisses the new motorcar, and demands that Toad abandon driving.
  2. Toad rejects his apparent repentance, so his friends lock him upstairs and take turns watching him.
  3. Toad pretends to need a doctor and lawyer, sends Rat away, and escapes down tied bed sheets.
  4. At the Red Lion, Toad hears arriving motorists, examines their unattended car, and drives it away.
  5. The magistrates sentence Toad to twenty years, and officers take him through a hostile crowd into a castle dungeon.
