Shrnutí The Consolation of Philosophy: Book 3: True and False Happiness Book III, no. 70, Song VII

Book 3: True and False Happiness Book III, no. 70, Song VII z 82 · Čtení song zabere 2 min.

In Song VII, the speaker recounts the trials of Atrides, Odysseus, and Alcides, moving from sacrifice and revenge to labours that earn heavenly glory. These examples support a direct appeal to brave hearts to endure earthly conflict rather than flee, with the stars presented as their reward.

Co se stane

  1. After ten years of warfare, Ilium falls; when divine anger and contrary winds block his journey, Atrides sacrifices his child.
  2. Odysseus weeps as the Cyclops devours his companions, and Polyphemus suffers blinding as punishment.
  3. Alcides gains fame through victories over creatures, the theft of golden fruit, and the capture of Cerberus.
  4. His final labour is to support heaven without bending, gaining heavenly glory.
  5. The speaker urges brave hearts to follow these examples, reject retreat, and earn the stars through earthly struggle.
