Shrnutí Little Women: Chapter 9

Chapter 9 z 47 · Part 1 · Čtení chapter zabere 26 min.

In Chapter 9, Meg spends two weeks with the Moffats, where envy, gossip about Laurie, and borrowed party clothes unsettle her confidence and draw her into behavior she regrets. Back home, she confesses to her mother, who rejects marriage for money and urges her daughters to value love, goodness, and self-respect.

Co se stane

  1. Her sisters help Meg pack for the Moffats, while she struggles to feel satisfied with her modest clothes.
  2. Laurie’s flowers and her mother’s note cheer Meg before a party, but overheard marriage gossip distresses her.
  3. Belle lends Meg a fashionable outfit, and the attention it attracts briefly delights her despite its discomfort.
  4. Laurie criticizes her appearance, apologizes, and dances with her, but dislikes her drinking and affected behavior.
  5. Meg returns home exhausted and confesses her vanity, flirting, drinking, and distress about the gossip.
  6. Mrs. March denies mercenary intentions and explains that love, character, and happiness matter more than wealth.
