Despite a spear wound, Tristram outlasts his opponent, strikes through his helmet and skull, and claims his discarded weapons as Marhaus flees toward his ships.

  2. Tristram refuses, explaining that he seeks honor and freedom for Cornwall from its tribute to Ireland.
  3. Their mounted charge brings both riders down, and Marhaus wounds Tristram’s side with his spear.
  4. They fight on foot for more than half a day, until Tristram gains the advantage in strength and breath.
  5. Tristram strikes through Marhaus’s helmet and skull, leaving part of his sword embedded in the wound.
  6. Marhaus abandons his weapons and flees toward his ships while Tristram mocks his retreat and claims his sword and shield.
